Sorbus
The columniform Sorbus 'Fingerprint’ grows better than Sorbus aucuparia 'Fastigiata' and is immune to cankers. This led to its being awarded the prize for best newcomer at the Groot GroenPlus Dutch arboriculture fair in Zundert.‘Fingerprint’ is a highly compact, narrow-rising tree with a dark-green composite leaf. After five years, orange-red berries appear during the autumn. The total dimensions are between 8 and 12m high and 4m wide, depending upon the position and soil.
This Sorbus aucuparia ‘Fingerprint’ is a selection from the nursery of De Martelaer Laanboomkwekerij. Each year, around 2500 Sorbus aucuparia rootstocks are planted for summer occulation. The Fingerprint was selected from the 1996-1997 rootstock batch. Growing it is always a long-winded process. This year there are 500 young trees available in sizes 6-8 and 8-10.
